If the government never releases the Epstein files, the damage to our democracy will last far beyond just this case. At its core, democracy runs on transparency; people have to believe that no one is above the law and that our institutions are open to scrutiny. When authorities lock away information that the public has a right to know, especially about such a high-profile scandal, it sends a message that powerful interests matter more than ordinary citizens. That kind of secrecy chips away at confidence in the system, making it harder for anyone to trust that justice is really being served.
